A man died in a terrible workplace accident involving a crane.
The 59-year-old was struck by a load of steel while working near a crane at a Glask construction site in Malaga, north of Perth, on Tuesday.
Paramedics were unable to resuscitate the man, who died at the scene.
Shocked colleagues who witnessed the tragedy said the man was well respected and they are heartbroken by his death.
A tradesman died on Tuesday at a construction site in Malaga, Perth, after being hit by a load of steel.
Western Australia CFMEU State Secretary Mick Buchan said: “There have been too many serious workplace accidents in recent times.
“And now to have the sixth death this year is an absolute disgrace and a burden on the industry,” Buchan said. He told 7News.
“It’s really important that they are informed and that they have the services that are there to provide mental health, first aid, someone to talk to, to make sure that they have someone to look after their well-being after an event like that.”
The site remained closed on Wednesday while a WorkSafe investigation was launched.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Glask Construction for comment.
It was the sixth workplace death this year, according to Western Australia CFMEU state secretary Mick Buchan.
