A house was cordoned off on Hilgay Street in Coolaroo, Melbourne, after a garbage truck picked up the body of a woman from the suburb.

Homicide detectives have set up a crime scene at a home after the discovery of a woman’s body in a rubbish dump.

Detectives believe the woman’s remains were placed inside a container that was collected from a property in Coolaroo, Melbourne‘s north, by a garbage truck on Tuesday.

Waste management staff located the body while removing green waste at Cooper Street landfill in Epping on Wednesday.

A single-storey brick house on Hilgay Street in Coolaroo was cordoned off by forensic teams and detectives on Saturday.

Recycling and trash bins belonging to the property were raided while detectives also examined items on blue tarps. Herald of the Sun reported.

Neighbors interviewed by detectives said an elderly woman lived on the property and had moved in just a few weeks ago.

An autopsy is currently underway to formally identify the woman.

Detectives also inspected a Brick house 100 meters from the street. The owners of that house have been abroad since last month.

“Significant CCTV work is ongoing in the Coolaroo area and police are keen to speak to anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage, particularly between Sunday 23 June and Tuesday 2 July,” a police statement read.

‘Detectives are also interested in speaking to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area at the time.’

Officers also inspected grass clippings from the house next door.

A woman who lives next to the house examined by the police, Beatriz Betancur, He said the only conversation he had with his neighbor was about what day the containers were coming out.

“That was the only thing we talked about, but she was a normal lady,” Betancur told the publication.

-I didn’t see anyone, I think she lived alone.

“It’s terrible, it’s scary. This street is very safe, very quiet, most of these people are elderly, like me.”

Police have not confirmed whether the cordoned-off house was the location from which the container had been collected.

The cause of the woman’s death has not yet been confirmed.
