Team USA Olympic Village Director Daniel Smith formerly He told the people that athletes can choose whether or not they want to stay in the Village.
Many high-profile athletes, including LeBron James and Stephen Curry of the men’s basketball team, stay off-site in luxury accommodations.
“If a sport decides not to stay (in the village), it has to find its own arrangements in terms of where it’s going to stay and make its own hotel contracts,” Smith said earlier this week.
“One challenge with that is that you’re basically outside the bubble at that point and Paris 2024 won’t provide you with transportation from your specific hotel,” he added.
‘All the meals, all those extra pieces that come along with the logistics that the athletes receive in the Village, you pay for them and all of that is at your expense.’
This comes a day after Gauff stood alongside LeBron James as one of two U.S. flag bearers during the opening ceremony.
“I never thought in a million years I would have the honor of carrying the American flag for Team USA at the Opening Ceremony,” the Grand Slam winner said in a statement.
‘I couldn’t be more proud to lead my teammates with LeBron as we showcase our dedication and passion on the biggest stage there is.’
