Liberal CNN commentator Van Jones raved about Kamala Harris’ debate against Donald Trump on Tuesday in Philadelphia, while anti-Trump Republican Chris Christie also praised the vice president.
Trump and Harris exchanged sharp remarks in the ABC News-hosted contest, drawing criticism from viewers over moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis’ refusal to fact-check Harris.

He then explained that Harris was fulfilling the fictional role of “wish fulfillment” in her handling of Trump.
“People wanted to see someone put this bully in his place,” Jones said of the former president.
“She came up to him and put him in his place. She provoked him and then beat him up,” he said, before laughing and repeating the statement again.
“Not only did she pass the Commander-in-Chief’s test, he failed it. You want this guy to take on a dictator? He saw the blows coming, but he couldn’t get out of the way.”
Jones concluded by stating that Harris was speaking “for the people” when she referred to her “middle-class background,” while Trump was speaking “for himself.”
Chris Christie, the former two-term New Jersey governor who ran unsuccessfully against Trump twice for the Republican nomination before ultimately turning on the former president, also praised Harris and criticized Trump.
“She was exquisitely well prepared, she set traps and he chased every rabbit down every hole instead of talking about the things he should have been talking about,” Christie told ABC News.
“This is the difference between someone who is well prepared and someone who is not prepared,” he added, saying that Trump “is going to lose the election.”

Christie later criticized Trump’s campaign for poorly preparing him for the debate.

“I think what we’re going to see is people looking at Kamala Harris as a potential president. Donald Trump is going to have to get to work.”

While pro-Trump conservatives like CNN’s Scott Jennings have complained about bias by ABC News moderators, he admitted that they may not have been able to help Trump.
“It’s hard to complain about the refs when you can’t make a shot,” Jennings said.
