Speaking at a panel about the Netflix film at New York Comic Con on Thursday, Chris, 45, explained: “I was meaning to take some time off to be at home and then I read this script and thought, ‘ahhhhh f**k, I guess I have to make this movie.” It was really good and opportunities like this don’t come around that often.

‘It has themes that are very resonant and important today when it comes to technology and humanity. So it’s just a special movie and when something like this comes up, you have to do it,” the Guardians of the Galaxy actor continued.

“And I asked my wife to read it and she said, ‘Yeah, I think you have to make this movie,’ so I got mom’s permission and I came and I got to play with the boys and girls,” Chris added, referring his co-star Millie, 20, and the Russo brothers, who directed the sci-fi adventure film.

Chris plays the role of eccentric wanderer Keats in the film, while Millie, who looked stunning in a silver jumpsuit at Comic Con, plays Michelle, an orphan teenager traversing the American West with a sweet but mysterious robot, and Keats, looking for his younger brother.

“It was a great story, I was moved to tears reading it, and you will be when you see the movie.” You will see that it is an incredible story, it is so beautiful, it is so original,” he added, before praising Millie.

“We met when she was a little girl at the Kids’ Choice Awards,” Chris revealed. And I remember that from that moment on she was so sweet, innocent and pure.

And of course, I’m a big fan of Stranger Things and have been watching their work. “It’s been incredible to watch her career take off and watch her take control and start ruling the world, so I was really looking forward to working with her.”

Referring to Millie and her husband Jake Bongiovi, who were on set every day, Chris gushed: “They are totally amazing, normal people who live extraordinary lives, and I can see the person in that because I feel the same way.” .

And so we had a great time. We became fast friends and you can’t undo this, I’m sorry!’ the Parks and Recreation star added.

“I’m so glad to have you as a friend,” Millie responded, before admitting that she felt “intimidated” when she first walked onto The Electric State’s set.

“Of course it’s intimidating, I’m 19 years old, I have to be here and I have to give you 50 percent and I felt intimidated,” she recalled.

“And then he (Chris) walks on set and says, ‘Heeeeeeeey,’ like he’s known me my whole life and I was like, ‘Oh, I already feel seen and loved,’ and it was an immediate click.

“Every take made me laugh and I think having that kind of energy in any workplace, but specifically on set, creates this feeling of trust and love and friendship that I think comes across on screen, which I think is really special and really rare,” the Stranger Things star added.

Millie also revealed that she was inspired by ’90s Drew Barrymore for her role as Michelle, admitting that she was “maybe more arrogant” and saying that the film “challenged her” as an actress.
