A senior producer who worked on canceled Channel Nine show Under Investigation has spoken about the ‘nonsense’ he endured while trying to find a new job.
David Richardson had produced the award-winning show hosted by veteran journalist Liz Hayes for three years when his time at the network was cut short in May.
Richardson revealed on LinkedIn on Wednesday that he had finally landed a new position “after a few months of unemployment.”
The journalist, who did not reveal his new role, denounced the “ageist” culture in the industry.
“I have to say the last few months have been challenging,” he wrote.
‘The work/employment scene is rife with ageist bullshit and unbelievable bias and nonsense.
‘Gone are the old days of someone making a phone call to hire an experienced operator, replaced by multiple interviews, no response and companies advertising jobs that are already assigned or non-existent.
“They mock sites like this designed to promote and help qualified candidates find jobs, and positive-thinking employers find valuable employees.”

Richardson added that he was “relieved” to no longer be looking for work and wished the best to those who were still trying to land a position on sites like LinkedIn.
He had spent more than two decades working on Channel Seven’s now-defunct news program Today Tonight and was a senior journalist at 7News.
Richardson also won a Kennedy Award in the Outstanding Team Player category in 2018.
Under Investigation has been scrapped amid widespread budget cuts at Nine designed to shave $30 million from the network’s underlying costs.
The measure has seen the true crime The show’s founding executive producer Gareth Harvey is switching allegiances (and channels) and taking on a senior role on Seven’s investigative show Spotlight.
Hayes is expected to return to full-time reporting duties at Spotlight rival 60 Minutes, albeit at a drastically reduced pace.

Nine’s extensive budget cuts led to the layoffs of around 200 staff at the media giant in August, but more trouble looms with the company’s interim chief executive, Matt Stanton, pointing to another $50m in budget cuts this financial year .
