Carlton manager Michael Voss has chased suspected car thieves who crashed a stolen Mercedes.

Voss was buying coffee Tuesday morning at the Barton Milk Bar in Hawthorn when she witnessed the vehicle crash across the street.

When the two teenagers suspected of stealing the car got out and fled on foot, Voss and the milk bar owner gave chase.

“Once the two men exited the vehicle and collected their belongings, they ran down the street,” said cafe owner Mr Laskie. Herald of the Sun.

“Michael Voss started chasing them and I started chasing them too.”

Voss threw one of the teenagers to the ground as police officers arrived. The other attacker is said to have managed to escape for the time being.

“They went into an apartment building, and there was quite a bit of movement, and one of them got away, but he (Voss) grabbed the second guy and threw him to the ground,” Laskie said.

‘And I tried to chase the other guy, but he was too fast for me, so we were lucky to catch one of them.

‘It was quite a hectic morning.’

Mr Laskie also added that police pulled a “large knife” from the trousers of the man Voss had accosted.

The car crashed near a school crossing and Mr Laskie was relieved that no one was hurt.

“It’s a very busy area,” Laskie said.

“And for this to happen without any tragedy, I think we are all very, very lucky this morning.”
