A teenage driver miraculously escaped after a serious crash in Sydney’s northwest on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old driver crashed on Old Northern Road, Baulkham Hills at around 7.15pm, in a collision so serious that a vehicle was completely cut in half and the rear end came to rest on the side of a house.
Incredibly, the driver of the 2004 Mazda drove away from the scene.
But his luck ran out when he was arrested after failing a roadside breathalyzer test.
The teenager was taken to Castle Hill police station by officers from the Highway and Traffic Patrol Command, where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.110.
His driver’s license was immediately suspended and he was charged with driving under the influence.
The driver of the other vehicle, 45 years old, was taken to a hospital for examination.
Police have used the incident to renew their community safety message about the dangers of drink-driving and speeding.

“While the cause of this particular incident is still under investigation, alcohol and speed appear to be the main factors,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
«It is important to remember that driving under the influence of alcohol and excessive speed are the main causes of accidents and deaths on the roads.
‘Remember, your decisions along the way can have life-changing consequences. Stay safe and drive responsibly.’
Police have urged anyone with dash cam or CCTV footage of the incident to contact the Hills Highway Patrol.
The teenager is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on December 11.
