Playoff-ready Caitlin Clark attempted to showcase her announcing skills at a recent Major League Baseball game, one of her Indiana Fever teammates revealed.

Lexie Hull posted the hilarious video of Clark doing a play-by-play of the Milwaukee Brewers’ 2-1 win over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night. That video went viral on TikTok.

“And that ball goes to the shortstop,” Clark began to laugh in the bottom of the fourth inning. “Rojas throws to first base and that’s not going to be enough. Single to the infield, William Contreras.”

It’s possible that I confused Phillies shortstop Trea Turner and center fielder Johan Rojas on that play.

Undeterred, Clark continued.

Clark can't contain himself while calling the Brewers-Phillies game

Clark boasted that she was a good commentator, which caused her teammate Lexie Hull to put her on the spot.

“Fourth base,” Clark said, his voice shaking slightly as Hull laughed in the background. “Score 1-0 Phillies. This brings someone up to the plate… Here comes the 0-1 pitch. Low, out.”

Clark didn’t just focus on the game action. He mentioned that Phillies ace Aaron Nola was carrying sketchbooks and then was quick to reveal an error.

“And a missed swing, for the second strikeout of the inning,” he said. “Nola gets out of the situation after the lead runner gets on base.”

A little embarrassed, Clark turned to the camera and confessed: “I could have been the second batter. I’m not sure.”

Once again, Clark pushed forward, informing his audience that they were entering the “top of the fifth” after a commercial break.

“We’ll be back,” he said, and by that point his comment had turned to laughter.

It turns out that Clark had been praising her broadcasting skills to Hull, who had demanded to see them in person.

Clark happily accepted.

“I told her (Hull) that I would sometimes commentate on some games, so she was like, ‘OK, let’s do it right now,'” Clark told reporters Saturday. “I didn’t really realize she was recording until a little bit of time had passed. But it’s fun.”

And why did you choose a game between the Phillies and the Brewers?

“I’ve been following the Phillies, so I know some of their players and stuff,” added Clark, whose boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, is a confirmed Philadelphia fan. “It was pretty fun. I made mistakes a few times.

“It’s hard work,” she continued. “Plus, I was out of breath and exhausted. Shout out to all the commentators. I did it for about two minutes and needed a break. And in baseball there’s a lot of downtime, so you need to find random things to talk about. So I was talking about his shoes, talking about random things. A little different than basketball.”

It’s true that Clark is not a die-hard baseball fan.

In fact, he likes some teams after growing up in Iowa, where the Chicago Cubs have a Triple-A affiliate, and recently visiting the New York Yankees’ dugout in the Bronx.

“My boyfriend grew up a huge Phillies fan, so I did, too,” Clark said. “I still like the Cubs, I like the Yankees. I’m not a die-hard fan of any baseball team… I also liked the Chiefs before they were very good, so I’m not a die-hard fan either.”

The Fever open their playoff run Sunday at 3 p.m. in Connecticut, where they will face the favored Suns in Game 1 of their first-round series.

Meanwhile, McCaffery is preparing for his first season as a men’s assistant coach at Butler in Indianapolis.
