Chocoholics have been left stunned by the “outrageous” price of an iconic Easter treat.

Shoppers were horrified to learn how much the price of Cadbury’s Easter Bunny milk had risen in supermarkets during the cost of living crisis.

The 250g treat will set you back $10 each this year, sparking online outrage from Australians.

“If I had kids they would be about to learn the truth about the Easter bunny,” one furious shopper captioned the photo.

Many chocoholics agreed.

‘I just realized that when buying today the price is now /100g and not kg. These are $40 a kilo!’ one wrote.

“It’s a 250 gram chocolate, very expensive,” said another.

‘The prices are ridiculous!’

Others said it was another reminder of the current cost of living crisis.

“Inflation is officially out of control,” said one user.

Some recalled how a slightly smaller 150 gram version cost $4.50 just five years ago.

‘These used to cost $4.50. I would buy three for my children each year. Now they are older and don’t like Easter-type chocolate, so I buy them the chocolate of the day. “I bet they won’t all sell,” one commented.

‘I remember when these were only a dollar. “I’m struggling the way things are, imagine if you’re a one-income family,” one Australian recalled.

Chocoholics have been urged to wait until prices drop.

‘They always go on sale. I just have to be patient and hopefully have a second refrigerator big enough to store it!, suggested one savvy shopper.

A Cadbury spokesperson insisted the price of the Easter Bunny has not changed from last year.

“The shape, size and price of our Cadbury Dairy Milk range varies depending on consumer experience and product type,” the spokesperson said. news.com.au.

“Cadbury can confirm that our 250g bunny referenced in post X has remained at the same price since last year.”

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Cadbury for further comment.

For those looking for a bargain and looking to sell out of stock a month before Easter, the bunny is currently on sale for $8 at Woolworths, while Coles has slashed the price further to $7.

Coles shoppers will save 25 per cent on all Easter gifts sold until March 5.

The rise in the price of Easter bunnies comes as the cost of cocoa increased by 44 percent between 2022 and 2023.

Experts say growing demand for the product and the El Niño weather phenomenon have also caused chocolate prices to skyrocket.
