The images make them look more like aliens than insects.
Ondrej Pakan, from Myjava, Slovakia, captured the stunning series of microscopic images insects after a downpour.

Ondrej Pakan from Slovakia captured the images with a special lens.
Small droplets of water cause the insects to take on a completely different appearance, swelling them to a larger size once they are covered in liquid.
In one striking photo, an ant appears to strain under the weight of water droplets falling on its body.
Another shows a huge wasp about to take flight submerged in water.
While a blue-eyed insect can be seen staring into Ondrej’s camera lens, covered in water spots.

An ant appears to be struggling to survive under the weight of water.
The Slovak photographer specializes in capturing the microscopic world. insects seconds after a downpour, but he also has to dodge the rains himself.
He said: “I get soaked waiting for the rain to end, but it seems like it’s all worth it when you get really cool pictures of the bugs with drops.”
This ladybug appears to be carrying a huge visitor on its back but it’s just a drop of water.
The photographs show the small details of the insects that are impossible to see with the naked eye.
‘It’s a challenge not to let your gear get too wet in some of the more exotic locations.
“People seem to really like the colors and the way the water magnifies the features of the insects.”
Ondrej used his trusty Canon 40D with a special lens to capture incredible shots..
The minute details of the tiny hairs on the insect’s body are shown in contrast to the bright colors of the creature.
