Bomb threats have been received at several health facilities in Queensland and police are investigating a suspicious package found at a major hospital.

Police were called to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital at around 12.30pm on Thursday after the suspicious package was reported.

Officers were quickly able to declare it was a false alarm and the package only contained food.

Despite threats received by several hospitals, none have been evacuated.

A police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia on Thursday night that they were aware “of threats that have been made to multiple health and medical facilities across the state this morning.”

“Specialist officers are currently in contact with partner agencies to determine how many facilities have received this threat and its validity,” the spokesperson said, adding that investigations were ongoing.

The threats appear to mirror a trend seen in India and Canada, where multiple random targets have been threatened but no explosives have been found.

In the Indian city of Delhi, at least 100 hospitals and shopping malls received bomb threats via email, prompting police to investigate.

The threats have been declared a hoax.

In Canada, dozens of Jews received similar emails saying bombs would be detonated, but none were found to be authentic.

The emails are believed to be intended to create chaos in cities around the world.
