- It was scheduled to take place next month.
The sale of NatWest government shares to the public could be scrapped after the Treasury confirmed the sale had been postponed until the general election.
“There will be no retail offer made during the election period,” a Tresury spokesperson said.
It was due to take place next month in the biggest public sell-off since Royal Mail listed on the stock market in 2013.
Cancelled? Public sale of NatWest government shares could be scrapped
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt had lined up M&C Saatchi for a ‘Tell Sid’ advertising campaign.
Sources said the sale would not take place until the end of the year as any incoming government would have to review the proposals.
Some have questioned whether it will go ahead as Labor has publicly refused to back it. NatWest shares are up 40 per cent this year.
