Lazio starting XI: Ciro Immobile returns
Bayern team news – Kane leads the line
Is Tuchel’s job at stake tonight?
Yes, I know that Thomas Tuchel will already leave Bayern Munich in the summer, but will he go that far?
Bayern are having their worst season in more than a decade and the pressure finally hit home in February when Tuchel announced he was leaving prematurely.
Despite the announcement, things have not improved for Bayern: they have only won once in their last five games.
If they fail to overturn the deficit against Lazio tonight, Tuchel may have to book an early ticket out of Bavaria.
Difficult times for the six-time European Cup champion.
Is Bayern Munich letting Harry Kane down?
You have to feel some sympathy for Harry Kane, it’s not that he’s failing in the Bundesliga.
In fact, it is his teammates who are letting him down and one wonders where they would be without his scoring ability.
What do you think? Are Bayern Munich players letting Kane down?
The Curse of the Kane Trophy
Harry Kane must surely wonder if he is cursed.
The only reason he left Tottenham in the first place was to win trophies (he even sacrificed himself to reach the Premier League goal record), but it looks like he could end the season empty-handed again.
The German champions have won the last 11 league titles, but Kane prevails and they appear to have given up their stranglehold on the Bundesliga.
What does the English striker have to do to be lucky in victory, he has scored 31 goals in 33 games this season, and even that doesn’t seem like enough.
At least he’s safe in the knowledge that Spurs will be left without trophies once again, so he won’t miss anything there.
PSG on pole
Every season, for some reason, I hope that PSG will make a real attempt at the Champions League, but I don’t know why, because it almost always goes wrong.
With the teams they have built over the last decade, they should have at least one title to their name. They came close in 2020, losing in the final to Bayern Munich, but other than that it’s been more disappointment after disappointment.
This season they almost went one step further than usual and were eliminated in the group stage, but they managed to overcome the goal.
You feel it tonight and this season is a great opportunity for PSG to go far in the competition. After comfortably beating Real Sociedad in Paris, you feel that a place in the quarter-finals is inevitable.
Surely in Spain they won’t make a mess.
Bayern’s last chance to win a trophy?
I can’t believe this is a post I have to write.
We all expected Harry Kane to drown in trophies at the end of this season after moving to Bayern Munich; they will almost certainly win the league every season.
Well, it seems extremely unlikely that they will do so this season. They are ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga and have been eliminated from both of Germany’s national cups.
The Bavarians even look like they could bow out of the Champions League round of 16 tonight, as they go into the match with a goal less against Lazio. The last time they were eliminated at this stage was in 2019, against eventual winners Liverpool.
They have to win tonight to keep trophy hopes alive, but even if they do, it is highly doubtful they can overtake the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid to win it all.
It is unknown territory for Bayern, but not for Kane…
Tonight’s action plan
I’ve been expanding on it, so let me show you what kind of night we’re in for.
- Bayern Munich (0) vs (1) Lazio, 20:00 GMT
- Real Sociedad (0) vs (2) PSG, 20:00 GMT
All eyes will be on whether Harry Kane and Bayern Munich can overturn their deficit from the first leg against Lazio. Following his form, he wouldn’t be so sure of that happening.
Meanwhile, it seems like a formality for PSG, but you know that sometimes they like to entertain us a little by being silly in important games.
It’s Champions League night!
I can already hear that beautiful music in my head.
The Champions League is back. It may only have been two weeks since we enjoyed Europe’s biggest competition on our screens, but it has felt like a lot longer.
Either way, we have a big night in store for you as Bayern Munich look to overturn a deficit from the first leg against Lazio at the Allianz Arena. At this point one has to wonder if Harry Kane is cursed, it looks like he is going to go through another trophyless season unless they can make a statement tonight.
We also have action in Paris to present the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Sociedad at the Parc des Princes.
The Parisians usually make a mess in the Champions League round of 16, but this time it seems more than likely that they will reach the round of 16: they have a two-goal lead heading into tonight.
European nights are always brilliant, so be sure to enjoy this rollercoaster evening with me; I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
Are you ready for another exciting night of action?
