Lamine Yamal became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the European Championship

England fans gave mixed responses when asked who they prefer between Spanish prodigy Lamine Yamal and darts sensation Luke Littler ahead of the Euro 2024 final.

Yamal made European history on Tuesday night by becoming the youngest goalscorer in the competition’s history.

The Spanish winger, aged just 16 years and 362 days, broke that record in style by scoring a stunning long-range strike against France.

He will be looking to lead La Roja to glory when they face England in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday.

Ahead of the match, Mail Sport asked Three Lions fans who they rate more highly between Yamal and Littler, who reached the final of the PDC World Darts Championship as a 16-year-old in January before losing to Luke Humphries.

One fan took aim at Littler, saying: “I look like Luke Littler. I wanna be like Luke Littler.”

For a second fan, there was no doubt. He said: “Yamal all day. Littler is amazing, great, but Yamal is a special talent.”

When asked what he was doing at 16, he added with humor: “I was a bad boy. I was a bad boy at 16.”

A third Englishman, wearing sunglasses, said: “It’s got to be Luke Littler because how can you get elite status for a sport all at once in one season?”

Yamal became the youngest ever scorer at the European Championships with his goal against France, breaking a record held by former Swiss striker Johan Vonlanthen that had been in place since 2004.

Spain are now the overwhelming favourites to lift the trophy on Sunday after beating Germany and France on their way to the two semi-finals.

They have a wealth of attacking options at their disposal, with Yamal and Nico Williams flanking Alvaro Morata in an impressive front three.

Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente praised Yamal after the match, with the veteran practically trusting someone 45 years his junior to help his team achieve success.

“We have seen a genius, the product of a genius,” he said. “He is a player we have to take care of. I have to give him the advice to continue working with the same humility and with his feet on the ground.

“He would continue to grow, but this maturity and attitude at such a young age is typical of a more experienced player. We are lucky that he is Spanish and we can enjoy him for many more years.”
