A bartender has revealed which drink orders will instantly make you suspect a customer is underage.
The man, who is only known by TheBoi or his username @swagg0dd on TikTok, said he had extensive bartending experience, from dive bars to high-end cocktail bars.
In a new 20-second clip, TheBoi acted out scenarios of a customer ordering a drink that would prompt him to immediately ask to see the person’s ID before fulfilling the order.
“Orders that will force me to check your ID at the bar,” the video began, all narrated via superimposed text, with The Boi silently pantomiming the scenarios.
One bartender, who is only known as TheBoi on TikTok, depicted exchanges with customers that involved him asking to see their ID before serving them.
‘Can I take a photo of Tito’s?’ It was the first order that made the waiter raise his eyebrows.
‘Can I get a very sweet Dirty Shirley with lots of cherries?’ is another order that would make TheBoi skeptical about whether or not a customer is of legal drinking age, particularly given the childish nature of essentially wanting an alcoholic version of Shirley Temple.
A simple order for a ‘vodka soda’ would not immediately arouse the waiter’s suspicions unless the customer shared an unusual brand preference.
TheBoi pantomimed responding, “Yeah, any preference for vodka?”
If the customer gave a totally ridiculous answer to, say, the well-known tequila brand ‘Patron’, that would be an instant red flag for TheBoi.
Many of the hundreds who responded to the comments were angered by the possible trial of their hypothetical bartender.
‘That’s why I hate going to bars. Every time I order a drink, I always feel like I’m being judged,” one grumbled.
‘I’m of legal drinking age, but I swear to God, bartenders judge you for ANY drink you order. Like dude, let me get what I want in peace,” a second agreed.
Among the top underage red flags for the bartender was ordering a single shot of Tito’s vodka.
Elsewhere on his TikTok, the bartender hinted that he had worked at several different establishments, from dive bars to high-end cocktail bars.
In response, several commenters complained about feeling “judged” when frequenting their local bar.
Many others were not ashamed to come to the defense of the Dirty Shirley, an alcoholic version of a Shirley Temple made with vodka.
To this, TheBoi confirmed: “Quietly, but now.”
‘I’m 29 years old and I still have no idea how to order. Also my stutter doesn’t help lol,” a third admitted.
Still, many others were unashamed in taking a stand in defense of the Dirty Shirley, which is made with vodka, grenadine, lemon-lime soda and topped with a maraschino cherry or two.
“I give my ID to that Dirty Shirley every time she POURS HER BABY,” declared one.
‘I’ll die on the hill because Dirty Shirleys are a SWEET GIFT FOR EVERY AGE!!!’ he insisted for a second.
“Ok, I just turned 21 and I never thought about a Dirty Shirley… Shirley Temples are my FAVORITE when I’m in a bar listening to live music, but I’ll have to try a Dirty Shirley hehe,” reflected a third, to to which TheBoi replied: ‘Get that ID ready.’
In any case, in an email with DailyMail.com, the waiter stressed that TikTok is satirical and that it “always” checks the identification of customers who appear to be under 40 years old.
Without a doubt, TheBoi is far from the first bartender to take to social media with information about his line of work, humorously and not so much.
San Francisco-based bartender Joshua laid out the “number one” thing customers should not do while sitting at the bar, as DailyMail.com previously reported.
Meanwhile, experienced bartender Michelle Charlotte Kimball of Raleigh, North Carolina, explained how ill-intentioned bar employees try to scam their employers and co-workers.
