A luxury car license plate that appears to reference Australia’s social security service has divided the internet.

The bold CNTRLNK plates were spotted on the rear of a black Mercedes C-Class sedan stopped at a traffic light in Perth on Sunday.

A stunned Australian shared a photo of the $150,000 vehicle on Reddit.

“Saw this license plate today,” he captioned the photo.

“I highly doubt the owner of this (Mercedes) is on Centrelink.”

Many Australians were unimpressed by the plates as the cost of living crisis worsens.

“It will clearly frustrate those who are on Centrelink through no fault of their own or their health.” I hope the driver grows up one day,” one of them wrote.

Another added: “Yes, I understand it’s a joke dish, but there’s something really distasteful about the rich looking down on the poor.”

Others saw the funny side and complimented the Mercedes driver on his sense of humor.

“It’s a pretty fun dish,” one viewer wrote.

Another added: “I imagine some people really take this seriously.”

Displaying personalized or personalized license plates is legal in Australia.

Motorists can apply for personalized plates through the relevant road authorities in their state or territory.

Other license plates have also gone viral, with one motorist praising the “clever” disguise of a swear word on his vehicle in March this year.

the plate numbers and letters – 370HSSV – seemed completely conventional.

However, when the plate was flipped over, eagle-eyed motorists noticed that it spelled the word “a*****e.”
