An Aston Villa fan who suffered cardiac arrest during a match has met the hero who saved his life.

Villa’s UEFA Conference League semi-final match against Olympiacos on 2 May was delayed after the incident occurred on the stroke of half-time, with fans evacuated from the lower stand of the Holte End at Villa Park.

Josh Moseley was the fan who had collapsed and received emergency CPR from fellow Villa fan Heidi Elliott before more paramedics arrived at the scene. The two had never met before.

Supporters dispersed from the area after the public address system urged them to clear the space to allow treatment to take place, and Elliott was attacked by another fan, who asked to be recognized for her efforts.

Elliott and Moseley have already met and were seen smiling as they posed for a photo outside Villa Park, with the image shared by Josh’s father Jason on X (formerly Twitter).

In the photo which appears to have been taken on the day Villa drew 3-3 with Liverpool in the Premier League, Josh can be seen smiling, looking into the lens with his arm around Elliott.

Trainee paramedic Elliott, who works for East Midlands Ambulance Service, appears to be laughing in the photo as he meets Josh for the first time since the incident.

“The moment you meet the angel who saved your life,” the legend said. “One of our family now.”

As the incident unfolded, members of the emergency services erected a black screen as they attempted to shield Josh from the view of thousands of supporters inside the stadium.

An ambulance was quickly prepared to take him to the hospital as excited fans watched the stressful scenes unfold inside the ground.

Josh was later taken to the ambulance as fans from both teams showed their support by applauding.

The players attempted to keep warm by kicking the ball into the tunnel while they were momentarily prevented from taking the field.

The second half was delayed for a few minutes as the Villa and Olympiacos players waited anxiously inside the tunnel before leaving.

An announcement was made asking fans to evacuate parts of Holte End following the ordeal.

In the video, Elliott posed alongside players including Leon Bailey, Ezri Konsa and John McGinn before watching an open training session.
