90s pop icons Aqua have sparked concern after the hitmakers’ lead singer Barbie Girl walked off stage, only to return crying in her pajamas an hour later.
The band were playing the first show of their Australian comeback tour in Perth on Thursday night when bizarre scenes began to unfold.
Viewers described the show as “awkward” and “horrible” after a series of strange incidents left the crowd confused.
Mix94.5 producer Shelby Brady recounted Pete & Kymba for Breakfast’s performance Friday morning, telling the hosts the show was “instantly bad” but got worse when singer Lena Nystrom left the stage and came back crying in her pajamas.

The Euro-pop group are best known for their 1997 hit single Barbie Girl and kicked off their Australian tour in Perth at Metro City on Thursday night.
Brady said the show got off to a bad start before the band even took the stage, with the crowd spotting an embarrassing mistake on a stage screen.
“I knew they were off to a bad start when the screen behind them said ‘Hello Adelaide’,” she said.
While she described the first song, Cartoon Heroes, as “vibe”, the show continued to deteriorate when Nystrom disappeared from the stage, claiming the departure was the result of a “sound problem”.

Lena Nystrom sat down for one of her songs after returning from a long break
“You could see that the female lead (Lene Nystrom) was taking her headphones off throughout the song, but it didn’t seem like a big deal,” she said.
“She’s leaving and she’s the lead singer so they have to go on without her.”
Shelby said the remaining singers “floundered” before all leaving the stage for an hour, leaving hundreds of concertgoers confused.
“It’s so embarrassing that no one knows what’s going on,” she said.
“They closed the bar so you couldn’t get drinks, there was nowhere to sit.
“People left because there was no communication. It was just an empty stage, with no people.
The group seemed in good spirits before running into trouble.
But the show took a turn for the worse when the lead singer returned to the show visibly upset and changed into her pajamas.
“They come back at 10 p.m. The lead singer wore leather before, she’s dressed in this and now she’s wearing her real pajamas,” Brady said.
“She was crying…heavy breathing the whole time and that was for the entire hour of performance.”
Host Kymba Cahill was empathetic towards the singer, suggesting she may have had an “episode” and was trying to finish the performance.
“Do you think it could have started with a sound problem? But to me it feels like she’s having a little episode,” Cahill said.
“If you get out of your tight feather outfit and you’re off stage for an hour and you come back crying and in your pajamas, that’s an indication that something is wrong. She is not well.
The onstage blunder comes as the band have been forced to cut back on their Australian shows due to disappointing demand.
