Queensland Police have declared a state of emergency in Urangan in Hervey Bay.

Residents in Hervey Bay, Queensland, are being urged to stay away from an entire suburb after a man threatened police with a knife.

Queensland Police were called to an address on Boat Harbour Drive in Urangan on the Fraser Coast at about 12pm following reports of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, they found a man armed with a knife and threatening the police.

Police have since declared an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

An exclusion zone covering Boat Harbour Dr, Lavell St, Hammond St and Toni St will remain in place until further notice.

While there is no threat to public safety, residents are advised to avoid the area.

“There is no further information at this time,” police said in a statement.
