The woman who unwittingly became the focus of Oprah Winfrey’s tirade against JD Vance responded to the gaffe by saying she is “disgusted” by the Republican vice presidential candidate’s mockery of “women with cats and no children.”
Winfrey was supporting Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention last night when she referenced Vance’s resurfaced criticism that the United States was being run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable with their own lives.”
The broadcast awkwardly cut to a bewildered woman, now identified as Maryland. Delegate Teresa S. Woorman – directly after Winfrey delivered the cat line.
Woorman later acknowledged the gaffe, making it clear that she was “having a great time at the Democratic National Convention” and found the whole event fun. She also suggested that she is proud to be a “childless cat lady” and took the opportunity to attack the Republican vice presidential nominee.
“Hell yeah!!! This childless cat lady is 100% disgusted by JD Vance in general and 100% supportive of @KamalaHarris and @GovTimWalz. I may also not have kids but I hope that’s not a permanent condition, thanks!” she wrote.

Winfrey, who has long hosted her signature talk show from Chicago, last night returned to one of Democrats’ favorite themes of late, mocking how Vance once derided “childless cat ladies” while arguing that Americans should have more children.
“When a house catches fire, we don’t ask about the race or religion of the owners… We just try to do the best we can to save them,” he began. “And if it turns out that the house belongs to a woman who has cats and has no children, we try to get that cat out, too.”
The camera then panned out into the crowd and focused on Woorman, who casually identifies herself as a “childless cat lady.”
“Funny that I was recently appointed to a legislative seat,” Woorman tweeted after the incident. “And last week I was sworn into the Maryland House of Delegates and during my remarks I referred to myself as a woman with cats and no children.”
Tagging both Winfrey and pop star Taylor Swift in her post, she added: “I’m in good company.”
Swift, who is expected to endorse Harris-Walz’s campaign, is known for being a proud mother of three felines named Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson and Benjamin Button.
Despite Woorman seemingly embracing the attention, social media erupted in a wave of support for the “childless cat ladies” after the delegate received the unexpected attention at the conference.
“I’m screaming at the DNC for cutting this random woman off when Oprah made a ‘woman with cats and no kids’ comment,” Buzzfeed’s Spencer Althouse wrote. “Taking a page from Wendy Williams’ cameraman, lol.”
Dale Tegman added: “Representation matters – justice for women who own cats and don’t have kids. WE SEE YOU GIRL!”
“She says something like ‘I know you’re not looking at me,'” another user wrote on X in response to the woman’s attempt to walk away from the camera.
Another posted: “OMG I was thinking the same thing. Even the way the poor girl turns around.”
Woorman has since acknowledged the gaffe, saying he was “having a great time at the Democratic National Convention” and found the whole event to be fun.

Vance’s 2021 comment criticizing Harris and other “childless cat ladies” went viral on social media after he was chosen as former President Donald Trump’s running mate in the 2024 presidential election.
He told former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that the United States was run by “a bunch of childless, cat-loving women who are miserable with their own lives and the choices they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
“Look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC: The entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children,” Trump’s newly announced running mate continued.

Vance responded to critics of his comments after they made headlines, claiming those who criticized him lied about what he said and even doubled down on what he meant.
“If you look at what the left has done, they’ve taken this wildly out of context and, in fact, aggressively lied about what I’ve said,” Vance told Fox News in late July.
“What I think is true, and this goes to the heart of what I was saying three years ago in those comments, but it’s something I’ll continue to talk about, is that the left has become increasingly explicitly anti-child and anti-family,” he continued.
Host Trey Gowdy pointed out to Vance that there have been plenty of leaders without biological children, from George Washington to former Republican Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
“I think you’ll agree with me that you don’t have to have direct descendants to fully invest in the future of this country,” Gowdy said.
“Absolutely not, Trey. I think being a parent has a profound effect on a person’s outlook and we should honor and respect that,” Vance said.

“But there are a lot of people who don’t have children for a lot of reasons. And they are certainly wonderful people who can participate fully in the life of this country.”
Legendary talk show host and philanthropist Winfrey made these comments a major part of her surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention.
Winfrey was a late addition to the agenda, but given her ties to Chicago and her previous support for Democratic presidential candidates of color, her attendance should have been anticipated.
The veteran talk show host walked into the United Center and announced, “Who said you can’t go home again?”
She said she remained a political “independent” but called on independents and undecided voters to support Harris.
“We’re past the ridiculous tweets, the lies and the nonsense,” he said, in comments clearly aimed at Trump. “These are complicated times and require adult conversations.”
When he referenced Vance, he was pointing out that “we are not so different from our neighbors.”
Despite her partisan criticisms, Winfrey told the crowd she still identified as an “independent.”
“Now you have a candidate who says if we go to the polls this time we won’t have to do it anymore,” he said. “We’re looking at a registered independent who is proud to vote again and again because I’m an American and that’s what Americans do.”

“Voting is the best thing about America,” she said. “And I’ve always, ever since I’ve been able to vote, voted based on my values. So that’s what’s needed in this election, now more than ever.”
“That’s why I’m appealing to all independents and all undecided voters,” Winfrey added.
He encouraged them to vote for the Democratic candidate because he represents “decency and respect.”
“But above all, let’s choose freedom. Why? Because that’s the best thing about America,” Winfrey said. “We are all Americans, and together, let’s choose Kamala Harris,” she said in a sing-song voice.
