A 64-year-old father-of-two has shown he is still young at heart by setting off once again to Ibiza for a 24-hour party, with nothing more than a change of clothes in a Waitrose bag.

Andy Armstrong, who last year went viral for jetting off to a night out at Pacha “because there was nothing on TV”, decided to recreate the trip 12 months later.

The party animal visits the island several times a year and this time he even managed to get a spot on the guest list for a Fatboy Slim concert.

Armed with his trusty Waitrose bag – which he calls a “business class upgrade” from last year’s Asda bag – Andy boarded a £62 flight out of Newcastle on Thursday 1 August.

He landed on the party island shortly after 7pm and headed straight to San Antonio for a pint at the Abrat Hotel, to enjoy the sunset before heading to Pikes at 11.30pm for the concert.

The raver partied all night until 5am on Friday before having to return home.

After landing on British soil, Andy took a train and arrived home just 24 hours after his departure – the entire journey costing him less than £200.

The steelworker, from Yarm-on-Tees, Stockton-on-Tees, North Yorkshire, described his experience as “brilliant”.

“I saw I could get a flight from Newcastle for £62 and a return flight to Leeds for £24, so I thought, ‘Let’s give it a go!'” she gushed.

‘The bag actually says “eat, sleep, reuse, repeat,” so I crossed out “reuse” and substituted “rave.”‘

Andy said he even enjoyed a change of clothes, swapping his T-shirt for a flowery shirt, to enjoy the Fatboy Slim concert, which was “very intimate” with “no more than a few hundred people.”

The raver explained that he had some time before his flight, so he decided to head to the Eden superclub.

“I turned on my charm and asked them not to charge me at the door and got a free VIP pass to get in,” Andy said.

“I just walked in and had a good time and sat there enjoying the atmosphere.”

‘I then got a taxi to the airport at 6am, set my alarm, fell asleep in the seats and boarded the flight back to Leeds, got a bus into the city centre, went and bought a new shirt to change into and then got the train back home,’ he revealed.

‘All done in less than 24 hours.’

Although Andy was initially considering going for a few nights, the high costs deterred him.

“I’m on the Pikes mailing list and I got an email two weeks ago about the Fatboy Slim concert and to sign up for the guest list,” he said.

‘I received an email and was given a free ticket.

‘Pikes is a very famous place: Wham made the Tropicana Club video there in 1984 and Freddie Mercury had his 41st birthday party there, so the place where Fatboy Slim appeared is called Freddie’s room.

‘I was thinking of staying three or four nights and it seemed quite expensive so I thought maybe I wouldn’t bother. It’s free entry, I don’t lose anything.

“But then I woke up the next morning and remembered that I had spent 24 hours there last year. Let’s see if I can do it again.”

Andy fell in love with the party island in 1981, while on holiday with his friends when he was 21.

“I loved it,” he said. “I went back several times after that, already married, with my wife and daughters.”

But after the tragic loss of his wife five years ago, Andy was unsure if he would ever return to Ibiza again.

It was his eldest daughter, Tiffany, 32, who convinced him to get back with her in July 2018.

“I wasn’t sure, I had the impression it would be full of young people, but how wrong I was,” Andy recalls.

‘There were many people my age who, like me, had a love for music and for the island.

‘That first time we came back we stayed in Ushuaia and went to see David Guetta.’

He and his second daughter, Ellie, 24, returned to the island in September 2018.

‘That’s how my love story with Ibiza began, returning many times alone or with friends,’ he said.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Andy said. “I don’t do it for the attention or the fame, I do it because I want to and I enjoy it.”

“It’s an adventure and that’s what life is all about. I’m 64 and GOD… am I aging disgracefully!”
