Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington and Monique Wright were left stunned on Friday morning when they confronted a strange comedian on live television.
Weird Sal, the less attractive cousin of Weird Al Yankovic, best known for his comedic parody songs, appeared on Sunrise to serenade the presenters during a live crossover with the Sydney Fringe Festival.
While there was plenty of awkward laughter during Weird Sal’s Where Dreams Are Broken, a parody of Hilary Duff’s What Dreams Are Made Of, Matt, 45, and Monique, 50, were left nearly speechless during the awkward performance .
Their embarrassing exchange began when Sunrise meteorologist Sam Mac introduced Weird Sal to viewers as Weird Al’s Australian cousin.
“Mr. Macaroni, I’ve spent many days writing parodies, and then my hotter cousin just took them all and ran with them,” Weird Sal said.

Monique let out an awkward laugh as Matt seemed to cringe at the husky voice the young comedian put on as he donned a fake mustache and a sloppy wig that didn’t cover his real long blonde locks.
Sam tried to keep the conversation going and asked, ‘Am I feeling a little resentment toward Weird Al Yankovic?’
Weird Sal responded: ‘You know it comes and goes in waves. It comes in the usual cease and desist restraining order, day by day, every two months.

“I feel like you communicate better through song,” Sam said before talking about the weather.
But things got stranger when Weird Sal began his parody Where Dreams Are Broken, a variation on the Disney song What Dreams Are Made Of from the Lizzie McGuire movie.
Weird Sal performed the song out of tune with some awkward dance moves while making awkward eye contact with the camera.
Throughout the performance, Monique’s jaw dropped and Matt’s frown deepened as they were left speechless by the show, which came to an abrupt halt when the music cut out without warning.

‘That’s a small sample of the action. I also love the abrupt cut of the music,” Sam said as Weird Sal waved awkwardly at the camera.
‘I’m glad it was a small sample. I think it’s better if there’s a public reaction,” Shirvo said.
“I think I want Weird Sal to go to karaoke before me,” Monique added.
The pair then quickly moved on to other news as co-stars Mark Beretta and Edwina Bartholomew fought back tears, having enjoyed the performance much more than their colleagues.
