The incident occurred in the ninth minute of the match at AESSEAL New York Stadium, and both groups of players were taken to the locker room while medical staff attended to the emergency.
Rotherham later posted on X that the individual had left the stadium with medical professionals.
They added: “We would like to thank everyone for their compassion and patience and needless to say all our love and thoughts are with the victim.”
“We ask that fans’ privacy be respected at this incredibly difficult time.”
