An Australian-made pancake mix advertised as “created by nutritionists” and suitable for vegans has been urgently recalled after it was found to contain milk.
Food Standards Australia issued a recall notice on Friday for Elixinol Wellness brand Mt Elephant “butter milk” mix due to the “undeclared allergen”.
The food authority urged all buyers of Byron Bay pancake mix who have a milk allergy or intolerance to “not consume this product”.

“Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the notice said.
“All consumers concerned about their health should consult a doctor.”
The 230g pancake mix was sold in Coles and Woolworths stores nationwide and online.
The affected packages are marked with expiration dates of October 9, October 10, and December 19, 2024.

Products sold with an expiration date of March 19, 2025 are also affected by the recall notice.
According to its website, Elixinol Wellness primarily sells food, skincare and hemp-derived products and “other nutraceutical, skincare and plant-based products.”
The packaging for “buttermilk” pancakes claims that the product is gluten-free and vegan, with no preservatives.
While milk is gluten-free, it is not generally considered a vegan-friendly product.
