A teacher at a Catholic high school has been accused of having sexual relations with one of his teenage students nine times.

The teacher at All Saints’ College in Maitland, in the Hunter region of New South Wales, was arrested at Maitland police station last week.

He was charged with nine counts of sexual intercourse with a person in his care and granted conditional bail.

He will appear before Maitland Local Court at the end of the month.

The defendant is one of two teachers at the school facing accusations of “gross misconduct.”

Both were placed on administrative leave last month.

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle issued a statement on March 15 stating that university leadership became aware of an allegation of misconduct on March 13, the Daily Telegraph reports.

He said the incident was reported to the “relevant legal authority on the same day” and that steps were immediately taken to place the teacher on administrative leave.

On March 14, “a connected but very separate allegation of a different nature against another member of staff” was presented to the school management.

The alleged incident was again reported to authorities and the school took steps to place the staff member on administrative leave.

“Due to the nature of the investigations currently underway, the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is unable to provide any further comment at this time,” the statement said.

‘The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle responds to all allegations of abuse and takes safeguarding seriously and prioritizes the safeguarding of children and vulnerable people.

“As is always the case with our diocesan system of schools, we encourage you to contact the leadership of All Saints’ College or the Safeguarding Office if you have any concerns.”
