New Delhi:

MLAs from both the ruling AAP and the opposition BJP held protests at the Delhi Assembly building on Wednesday, raising slogans against each other.

While the MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a rally demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been arrested by the ED in an excise-related money laundering case, the legislators of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and their supporters are chanting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Both sides staged protests at the same time. While the BJP legislators took out a march with banners, the AAP leaders and workers, dressed in yellow T-shirts, started raising slogans against Prime Minister Modi as they followed the saffron party MLAs.

Opposition Leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said Arvind Kejriwal should resign as chief minister.

“The Prime Minister should resign from his position. There are almost a dozen allegations of corruption against him. If the excise policy was world class, why did he withdraw it? We demand the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal,” Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said.

The BJP MLAs gathered at the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the premises where they were protesting.

Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said while Arvind Kejriwal is currently facing charges in one case, investigations are underway in numerous other cases, making him accountable for multiple alleged scams. He asserted that dismissal in such circumstances remains the only viable solution.

He said that Arvind Kejriwal’s continued holding of the chief minister’s post undermines both moral and constitutional principles and called for his immediate resignation to avoid further damage to Delhi.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva also held a rally outside the entrance of the Congress building around noon with a group of around 100 party workers from Mayur Vihar, along with office-bearers of Mahila Morcha and Yuva Morcha, demanding Arvind’s resignation . Kejriwal.

Dressed in black, the BJP workers gathered at the entry gate of Vidhan Sabha and started raising slogans. Virendra Sachdeva himself climbed the gate and shouted slogans.

The police did not allow them to enter the assembly building. Security personnel locked the main gate and then detained the protesters.

Virendra Sachdeva said that the people of Delhi are frustrated seeing the Arvind Kejriwal government’s ‘illegal’ political melodrama and asserted that they will teach the AAP-Congress alliance a lesson in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls by completely shutting them down to point out.

He said that two ministers of the Delhi government are already in jail and alleged that Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj could also be jailed soon for allegedly issuing fake letters.

Before the commencement of the assembly proceedings, the AAP MLAs staged a protest outside the House of Representatives and raised slogans demanding immediate release of Arvind Kejriwal from the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The party leaders, including Atishi and Bharadwaj, were part of the protest. They were dressed in yellow T-shirts with slogans like “Main Bhi Kejriwal” and “Modi ka Sabse Bada Dar Kejriwal” written on them. They also burned an effigy.

The AAP national president was arrested by the ED on March 21 and subsequently remanded to federal custody till March 28 by a court here.
