Jacinta Nampijinpa Price is “haunted” by the realities she faced during a recent trip to Israel.

Australia’s Indigenous opposition spokeswoman revealed on Friday afternoon that she was struggling to get a good night’s sleep after returning to the Northern Territory.

“I hadn’t slept well. I could not. I was haunted by images of armed men in my backyard, attacking my husband and children,” she said in a message to her legions of supporters.

“I could hear screams and feel a sense of horror as I imagined them turning their weapons on me.”

Ms. Nampijinpa Price said she has struggled to erase these thoughts from her mind since returning from Israel and the kibbutz that was the site of the October 7 massacre by Hamas.

“The things I imagined were what happened to the Israelis on that kibbutz on that terrible day,” she said.

“I was shown footage from cell phones, car cameras, CCTV and body-worn cameras of Hamas terrorists. Images of things I can never forget.

Being back home in Alice Springs, awakened by “beautiful sunshine and the sound of birds and wildlife”, did not ease this burden.

“These fanatics are not interested in peace or a two-state solution. They want to kill and destroy the Jews. That’s it.’

Ms Nampijinpa Price is also concerned about Australians who appear to justify or even extol the tragedy of October 7.

“We held demonstrations in the streets to glorify the ‘martyrs’ of Hamas… It is astonishing and, dare I say it, frightening that this is happening on our own shores.

“Hamas relies on the support of gullible Western activists to cover its terrorist campaigns and many in Australia are only too happy to give it to them.”

Ms Nampijinpa Price and the Coalition called for a stronger response from the government to protect Jewish people in Australia and condemn attacks in Israel.

She is one of several politicians who visited Israel following the attack and amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

This follows a busy 2023, during which Ms Nampijinpa Price successfully led the Coalition’s campaign against the Indigenous Voice in Parliament referendum.

Ms Nampijinpa Price asked: “How long will it take this government to listen to the Voice referendum result? The Australians said no.

“They don’t want to be divided that way, but that’s what the treaty and the so-called truth says: divide.”
