A shocked Japanese tourist has shared footage of the moment he was racially abused and accused of being a Chinese spy by an Australian woman.
Kentaro Jin, also known as Catman, walks from Western Australia to Sydney in a leopard costume while pushing a wheelbarrow, aiming to make people smile.
He began his journey in Carnarvon, in Western Australia’s north, in November and has since traveled the coast to Margaret River in the state’s south.
While Mr Jin’s adventure of a lifetime was filled with happy memories and warm welcomes from locals, he was left in shock after being confronted by an angry Australian woman on the side of the road more early this week.
He began filming as the woman unleashed a swear-filled tirade of abuse.
Kentaro Jin aka Catman (pictured) recently suffered a lot of abuse during his travels
“Damn Chinese Communist Party or what?” What the hell is going on? You don’t know Chinese? the woman began, tapping her foot.
A confused Mr Jin explained he was crossing Australia on foot and tried to correct the woman by telling her he was in fact Japanese.
“I don’t know China, I’m Japanese. Look at my ID,” he said.
Mr. Jin’s calls fell on deaf ears.
“You’ve never heard of China?” China! Chinese people. OK, you stay there. I’m calling the police,” the woman threatened.
She finally realized that Mr. Jin was not Chinese.
” You are Japanese ? Do you say you are Japanese? The Japanese have eyes…’, she said.
The video ended with the woman launching a barrage of final insults.
“Take your fucking king mask off your brain!” Are you a CCP spy? Are you a Communist Party spy? she screamed.
‘Who are you? What are you doing here? Show me your ID! I do not care.’
Mr. Jin later described the ordeal as “a very sad experience.”
“I started this style of travel with the desire to make a lot of people smile,” he told his 29,000 Instagram followers.
“However, there are times when people turn against me because of differences in my thinking.
“I’m Asian and I can’t speak English well or listen to it perfectly.
“But a lot of people in Australia accept me and are very nice to me.
“I love Australia because of its kind people.”
The Japanese tourist was accused of being a Chinese spy by a woman (pictured) he met while hiking along the Western Australian coast.
Mr. Jin was flooded with support from viewers.
“Honestly, you should have called the police. This type of behavior is unacceptable and is not tolerated in Australia. Truly shameful!’ » commented one man.
Another wrote: “I’m so sorry Catman! People like that are everywhere and they will never understand your commitment and caring attitude.
“We believe in you and support you all over the world! »
A third wrote: “This behavior is not representative of us or our country. I’m sorry you had to go through this.
Others have provided helpful advice.
“When someone asks you for your ID card, make sure it is an authorized person and not an ordinary civilian,” one wrote.
Boogaloo, in the Margaret River, was the last stop on his trek which is expected to end in Sydney.
