This is the breathtaking moment a car almost hits a horse as it attempts a risky overtake on a country road.
The near miss is one of several shocking incidents filmed and released by Staffordshire Police following 45 deaths on their roads in the past 12 months.
The first-person footage, filmed above the horse, shows the animal trotting down the lane when it passes a white car.
The vehicle waits patiently for the horse to pass safely on the narrow road.
But suddenly, out of nowhere, a big blue 4×4 comes from behind and tries to overtake the horse on the same side of the road as the other vehicle.

A white vehicle waits patiently for the horse to pass safely on the narrow road. But suddenly, out of nowhere, a big blue 4×4 comes from behind and tries to overtake the horse at full speed, on the same side of the road as the other vehicle.
The rider is forced to suddenly stop the animal while the 4×4 makes a risky overtake.
The car narrowly avoids hitting the horse as it weaves and drives away.
The animal then continues to trot slowly and its rider seems to make a gesture of frustration at this dangerous maneuver.
The Highway Code states that drivers must be “particularly careful” when overtaking horses and always overtake them well.
Cars must also reduce their speed to less than 10 mph and leave at least two meters (6 feet 6 inches) of space.
The clip was released alongside other near misses in a montage of frightening incidents created by Staffordshire Police.
The videos were posted to X, formerly Twitter, with the caption: “As part of our #LookAgain campaign, we’re sharing some eye-opening clips of poor and reckless driving behavior to highlight potential dangers.”
One clip shows dashcam footage of a car entering the village of Forton on a busy road with vehicles traveling at high speed.
In another clip, a BMW driving at high speed suddenly veers off its side of the road and appears to be heading into a head-on collision.
The terrifying video sees the BMW swerve into its lane at the last second, narrowly missing the other car.
Another clip shows a driver almost causing a serious accident by going around a roundabout in the wrong direction.
Dashcam video shows a vehicle crossing the roundabout when a large blue van suddenly appears and appears to be heading straight towards it. A panicked gap narrowly avoids a pileup

Some heartbreaking clips show cars completely ignoring red lights, including one incident that happens just as someone is about to cross the road.
In another sequence, a cyclist is riding on a narrow road when he is nearly run out by a van with a trailer.
The large vehicle acts as if the cyclist was not there, leaving less than a meter between it and the cyclist.

A final bizarre but dangerous maneuver is shown when a pickup-style Ford attempts to drive around a traffic jam but rolls onto the sidewalk.
The car, stuck behind a white truck, gets on the sidewalk and begins to drive on the sidewalk to pass the vehicle.
Fortunately, there were no pedestrians in the car’s path and the vehicle avoided mowing down civilians.
Police have released a series of terrifying clips after a series of traffic-related deaths over the last year.
A Staffordshire Police spokesperson added: “Over the past year we have seen a high number of deaths on the county’s roads, with 45 people sadly losing their lives.

“Every road death is a tragedy and something we want to avoid.
“Through our new road safety campaign, Look Again, we want to reinforce the fact that as drivers, we all have the ability to make our roads safer by taking simple steps.
“Whether it’s taking another look at other road users before stopping at an intersection, adjusting your speed when driving through a busy city center, or taking a moment to check a maneuver before you do it, these actions could save your life – and those of other road users.
