This is the terrifying moment a ‘wreckball’ breaks loose and smashes through a car window, leaving two women screaming in terror.

Shocking footage shows the driver and her passenger traveling through Belfast on Tuesday night when the giant ball appears from seemingly nowhere and completely obliterates the moving car.

The mayhem was amazingly captured in full on dash cam as the engine crumpled on impact.

In the clip, the women can be heard discussing roadworks along the coast road, with the left lane completely blocked while gas company Phoenix Energy carries out improvements.

The two pass a bridge and are mid-conversation when a piece of heavy equipment – supposedly a huge piece of equipment used to test pressure in pipes – is sent into the air behind the road barriers.

The ball goes straight towards the car, and a split second later it smashes into the windscreen of the engine, shattering the glass and the front completely.

The women are immediately sent into a frenzy, screaming in terror as the camera’s screen goes black and chaos breaks out.

A woman screams in pure panic as her friend tries to reassure her, repeatedly shouting: ‘You’re okay, you’re okay.’

Miraculously, no one was injured in the incident, despite one of the women apparently screaming in pain amid the destruction of the ball.

It is not known what caused the construction equipment to fly into the road, although it appears to have come loose from its anchorage.

The harrowing footage was shared to social media with the caption: ‘Wracking ball straight through the window of a car on Shore Road.

‘Must have only happened since it’s not in the news yet. Crazy.’

The clip has since received over 1,000 likes and more than 90 comments from users who have been amazed by what they saw.

One user said: ‘How the hell did it get detached from whatever was holding it?’

Another added: ‘This is one of those things used to test the water pressure. It’s basically a giant sink plug.’

A third wrote: ‘Casualty levels in the final destination.’

A spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said today: ‘Police received a report of an incident near Shore Road, Newtownabbey on the morning of Tuesday, March 12, when a car was struck by an object.

‘One vehicle was damaged and no one was injured.’

A Phoenix Energy spokesman added: ‘We are aware of an incident that took place where a car passing a Phoenix Energy construction project on the coast road on Tuesday 12 March was damaged by a piece of rubber testing equipment.

“Such equipment is commonly used in such projects.

‘The building work is being carried out by our main contractor and we know that their representatives have been in contact with the driver and passenger.

“While those in the car were understandably shaken, we understand that they were not injured.

‘We are now conducting an urgent investigation with our contractor and the manufacturer of the equipment to understand the full context of this incident.

‘Health and Safety Executive NI has been informed of this incident by Phoenix and as always we will co-operate fully with all relevant authorities.’
