This $26 Aussie white wine has been dubbed the ‘best in the country’

A South Australian wine has been named the best in the country at a famous international awards ceremony.

Taylors Wines’ $26 Jaraman Sauvignon Blanc won the ‘Best of Show Australian White’ trophy and received a gold medal at the 2024 Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards.

The Mundus Vini Awards are Europe’s largest wine competition determined by a panel of 250 expert judges from around the world.

The judges taste wines from 45 different countries, all vying for the prize – and Australia has once again come out on top.

South Australian wineries claimed 40 of the 41 major gold and gold medals awarded to Australian wineries at the International Wine Competition.

Another shining star in the competition included Kilikanoon, who won the ‘Best in Show Australia Red’ trophy for its $96 Oracle Shiraz.

The $26 Sauvignon Blanc is described by Taylors as elegantly structured with passion fruit and green apple flavors, fresh herbaceous notes and a subtle hint of minerality.

Australian wines are no strangers to prestigious awards – with Tasmanian wine Pirie Late Disgorged Sparkling 2011 crowned ‘Wine of the Show’ and ‘Sparkling Wine of Show’ at the 2023 Global Fine Wine Challenge.

The $145 wine was awarded an impressive 97 points out of 100, with Toni Patterson MW remarking: ‘Bright, fresh and sparkling. Fresh lemon. Cracked wheat. Delicious brioche taste. I love the length and energy of this wine.’

‘It really is a great tribute to everyone involved in producing this wine; from the growers to our team in the vineyard, where Tasmania is once again proving its quality on the world stage,” Pirie Senior Winemaker Tom Wallace previously told FEMAIL.

Sir. Wallace was delighted that the Late Disgorged Sparkling 2011 came out on top against some of the finest wines in the world.

The wine combines aromas of fresh lemon curd and baked sourdough with a powerful taste of cool climate.

The premium cool-climate Tasmanian sparkling wine spent over a decade on lees to become a rare and exquisite cuvée that exhibits exceptional complexity and depth.
