Authorities canceled an Arizona couple’s dream wedding after neighbors complained about loud music and dancing, and they’re not the first.
Holliann Tran and her husband chose to celebrate their special day at Wrangler’s Roost in New River, which bills itself as a venue that hosts private events. But their wedding was canceled by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in November 2022, just 10 minutes after their reception and is now coming to light.
Body camera footage from the night of the incident shows Tran, standing in her wedding dress, crying as officers came to stop the event.
“My dad came up to me and said, ‘You have to come forward,'” he said. KPNX. ‘And they said, “We have to close it.”‘
County officials revealed that the venue does not have an event permit and there have been 61 complaints since July 2021. The owners, Heidi and Reid Stewart, have reportedly racked up at least $70,000 in fines.

Tran was enjoying a dance at her wedding before sheriff’s deputies arrived to shut it down after noise complaints. Body camera footage of the incident shows Tran crying once they were told to pack up and leave.
Her father and husband were comforting her in front of the property, where deputies said the location is not in an appropriate location and that officers could hear the music from 1,600 feet away.
‘I was so sad. I just… really cried all night,” Tran said. “The police said: we have to close it. And I was like, “You’re kidding, this can’t be real.”
“And they said, no, you rented a place that’s not really a place and I instantly started crying.”
Tran quickly knew she wanted to have her wedding at the venue after a visit.
‘It’s a beautiful place. Just the desert landscape is really beautiful,” Tran said. AZ Family.
‘I thought it would really be a place for everyone to meet in the middle and we found a place that would allow parties.
“I’ve seen photos of weddings, we’ve been shown photos of other people getting married.”
But Sergeant Joaquin Enriquez of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said Wrangler’s Roost does not have an event permit.

“The owners of this property are running a business in what should be their residential home because it is not zoned commercially,” he said.
Heidi and Reid Stewart, the facility’s owners, were reportedly ordered to stop advertising or hosting any commercial businesses on the property without a special use permit in 2021.
They were fined $750, plus $75 for each day they continued to operate and this has totaled $70,000 in fines so far, according to records.
‘Since approximately July 2021, there have been 61 calls for service. Can you tell that’s a lot? “It is a lot of time and resources that we have dedicated to this problem,” said Enríquez.
Resident Marko Dapevich moved to the area to escape the noise of the city, but says he constantly has to deal with loud music and bright lights on weekends.
‘The noise is notable. We can play that song in our bedroom at 10 at night,” she said. “The sheriff’s office recorded about 60 decibels inside our house.”
He lives near Wrangler’s Roost and can see it from his property. Dapevich is frustrated by the lack of action on noise complaints and filed a civil lawsuit seeking an injunction.
“The county hasn’t enforced it, the sheriff’s deputies haven’t enforced it, and they haven’t enforced the zoning code,” he said.
‘So after several years of this, I felt like the only option we had to stop it was to file a civil lawsuit and ask for an injunction.
“It’s a little bit of a mystery, because you don’t want to ruin someone’s wedding,” Dapevich added.

“That’s a special day for them, but for us and the other hundreds of people who are within range of that day, it goes on and on and on.”
Tran said she just wanted to enjoy her special day. ‘For me, great, let’s plan the ceremony. For me, the goal was to plan the party, plan the dance,” she said.
“It seemed like a real, legal place until the police showed up.”
He contacted the venue’s owners, who allegedly told him to turn the music back on, but were forced to send everyone home. Text messages from the exchange were shared with local media outlets.
The couple had paid $10,000 to rent the venue for their wedding.
“It’s your money, it’s your hard work that makes it go out that day, and it’s also for me, the people who traveled all over the country,” Tran said.
The Stewarts refunded some of their money, but the newlyweds were still left with unpleasant memories.
“You plan your whole life for this special day and then someone takes it away from you, it’s really disheartening,” Tran said. “I would never want this to happen to anyone else.”
