A shotgun wedding at a Las Vegas wedding chapel is an iconic scene on Nevada’s bright strip and now one couple has added an Australian touch with NRL South Sydney Rabbitohs club mascot Reggie Rabbit.
As the countdown continues to Sunday’s historic NRL season opener in Las Vegas, all four teams involved in the double-header have now landed in the United States for their final preparations.
Thousands of Australian fans have also flocked to Las Vegas along with several expats living in the United States.
And one couple took the opportunity to get married as part of the NRL invasion – including a very special appearance by Reggie Rabbit.
Kaylene is accompanied by Reggie Rabbit while her future husband Michael applauds them.
The blushing bride also carried a South Sydney flag and offered Reggie a quick hug to thank him before the wedding.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs, who will play Manly as part of the double-header at Allegiant Stadium, share video of couple Michael and Kaylene at Graceland Wedding Chapel preparing to exchange their vows.
Then the door opens and Kaylene appears in her full wedding dress, arm in arm with Reggie Rabbit, who walks her down the aisle.
Kaylene happily waves a South Sydney flag in her other hand, which also holds the bridal bouquet, as Michael applauds her grand entrance down the aisle.
‘What better man/pet to accompany you around the island of Las Vegas than Reggie the Rabbit! Congratulations Michael and Kaylene!’ posted the Rabbitohs social media account.
Fans loved Reggie’s gesture and quickly offered their well wishes.
‘What a beautiful moment. Congratulations to both of you and all the best for the future,” one posted.
Reggie Rabbit celebrates a victory with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2013. He has worn the suit since 2002.
South Sydney made sure Charlie Gallico, aka Reggie Rabbit, was part of their road crew to Las Vegas.
‘How beautiful, a moment that will never be forgotten. Good morning, Reggie. Congratulations to the newlyweds,’ another added.
“The only thing better would have been to have Glory Glory playing,” another suggested.
Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas is an iconic wedding chapel named after the king himself, Elvis Presley.
With its kitschy yet endearing atmosphere, the chapel has been a popular choice for couples looking for a unique and unforgettable wedding experience.
From Elvis-themed ceremonies to classic wedding packages, Graceland Wedding Chapel offers a unique blend of entertainment and romance in the heart of the vibrant Las Vegas Strip.
Charlie Gallico has been the man behind the Reggie Rabbit mask since 2002 and still proudly represents the club as their mascot to this day.
Gallico was resuscitated by paramedics following a heart attack in 2016, but recovered to continue making an impact on the club and community.
He is such a popular figure in Redfern that Souths even made a film about his life as Reggie Rabbit.
South Sydney fullback Latrell Mitchell poses with fans in Las Vegas as the NRL prepares to launch its season on the bright strip.
Meanwhile, South Sydney superstar fullback Latrell Mitchell is not worried about the skinner field at Allegiant Stadium, where the Bunnies will take on the Manly Sea Eagles.
‘When I was young, I used to run around people now. “I’m 26 or 27 now, I just ran them over,” Mitchell told AAP at the Fox League launch in Las Vegas.
‘You have to create your own space. It’s a closer game, a closer field. It will simply be feeling each other’s game.
“The entertainment will be there, it will be there, but it’s just about feeling our way through the first round and shaking off the cobwebs.”
‘We are full. Because now we can do what we love on the world stage. Trell-Mit has been global for a long time and now it’s here.”
