A woman whose arm was brutally torn off by her own dog says she does not blame the animal for the horrific attack that almost cost her her life.

Annmarie Walters, 34, from Garbutt, a suburb of Townsville in northern Queensland, was attacked by her dog, Buddy, on October 11.

Ms Walters said Buddy was shocked when a neighbor suddenly kicked in the door of his home on Lonerganne Street.

“I grabbed him and he bit me on the left arm. I screamed at him and he let me go, but something outside, maybe all the screaming, must have triggered him again because he grabbed onto my right arm and I knew it was bad,” she told the newspaper. Townsville Newsletter.

In a desperate effort to help, a neighbor threw a knife over the fence, but Buddy became increasingly aggressive.

He became completely psychotic. I’ve never seen a dog like that. He pulled back three times and then his arm came off. I was quite relieved when it was removed, the pain was unbearable.’

Ms. Walters was left fighting for her life in the front yard, blood pouring from her arm, as neighbors retreated inside their homes.

He was able to call paramedics after taking off his shoes and putting his foot toward his phone.

Emergency services attended the scene and discovered Ms Walters with a severed forearm and shot the dog dead.

They later recovered his forearm in the hope that surgeons could reattach it.

However, the damage was too severe, making reintegration impossible.

Mrs. Walters explained that she was not angry at Buddy and expressed her distress at not being able to save him before he was put down.
