49ers QB Purdy subtly roasts CMC and Deebo after recent athletic flashes originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Star Brock Purdy, 49ers quarterback has received additional praise four weeks into the 2024 NFL season due to their ability to climb.
The 24-year-old has recorded eight first downs on the ground and routinely extends plays for San Francisco’s injury-plagued offense by maneuvering around contested pockets.
After using his legs in 49ers victory 30-13 On the New England Patriots on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium, Purdy talked about mobility with reporters, mocking two of his All-Pro offensive teammates.
“I think my 10-yard split, just to give you perspective, I think was faster than (Christian McCaffrey) and (Deebo Samuel),” Purdy told reporters about his 2022 NFL Combine performance on Sunday. “You guys can check my facts, but that’s what I mean. I think I have enough to get out of the pocket and make a play, go five, seven yards here and there. So I’m not (Baltimore Ravens quarterback) Lamar Jackson by any means. But anyway, do whatever it takes.”
Hilariously Cooked Purdy Initial velocities of McCaffrey and Samuel.
Additionally, Purdy understands that he can’t match Jackson’s speed. But in a pinch, the San Francisco communicator can do the job.
He has 75 rushing yards on the season and 232 in his three-year NFL career with three rushing touchdowns. However, Purdy was much more feisty at Iowa State, racking up 1,177 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. during four cyclone seasons.
But old times are old times.
“I’m not going to sit back thinking, OK, ‘I’m going to act like I’m going to throw and then just run and try to make a play.’ It’s not like that,” Purdy explained. “I’m a quarterback. I’m trying to read my reads and hit my guys and move the chains that way, and that’s the position I play, and I’m proud of that.
“When something isn’t there and teams are down eight and they’re pushing three… I’m still going to continue my progression, I’ll try to hit my guys in the windows when I can, but if not, then I feel like I have a chance.” . adequate amount of athleticism to move and make plays. I don’t need to be a weird athlete and all that kind of stuff. “I know who I am, but if something presents itself, then I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get our team to move the chains and use my legs.”
“I feel like I have the right amount of athleticism to move around and make plays.”

Purdy, as he should be, is a first-read QB. You are not looking to apply without exploring all options.
However, Purdy’s fellow stars in San Francisco have taken notice of his wheels and advocate for their use. Superstar linebacker Fred Warner, who used his legs in a Pick six from 45 yards against New Englandpraised his QB.
“I think he’s a great athlete,” Warner told reporters after the game. “Keep running to get those first downs, buddy. I love that.”
Warner has probably seen Purdy struggle more than any opposing defender because of the hours spent practicing.
And facing simulated quarterback spies like Warner likely correlates with Purdy’s flashes of game-day mobility.
