A board-certified dermatologist has revealed five things she would never do to her skin, including one that could lead to serious infection and even blindness.

The crucial information was shared by Dr. Lindsey Zubritskyfrom Mississippi, in a New video posted on TikTokwhere he has more than 1.5 million followers.

The doctor often takes to her platform to share her tips, tricks, and other skin hacks, and this time was no different as she dove into her bucket list of things she would never do.

The first mistake Zubritsky mentioned was one that could have serious consequences: popping a pimple in something she calls the “danger triangle.”

This is the section of the face that covers the area from the bridge of the nose to the corners of the mouth, forming a “triangle.”

Dr. Zubritsky’s Harsh Warnings on Skin Care

  • Never pop a pimple in the “danger triangle”
  • Never go to sleep with wet hair
  • Avoid placing a laptop on your lap
  • Do not use retinols or retinoids as spot treatments.
  • Do not wax your skin while using retinoids, retinols and Accutane

“If you pop a pimple here, there’s a chance that bacteria from your skin can get into your bloodstream, which has a direct connection to your skull and brain through something called the cavernous sinus,” Zubritsky explained.

“It can cause serious infection, as well as blindness or even death,” he added.

Last December, Dance Moms star Brooke Hyland, 26, accidentally popped a pimple on this triangle and ended up with an infected eye as a result.

Fortunately, she made a full recovery with a round of antibiotics, but she urged others to avoid touching any blemishes that might arise in that area.

Next on the dermatologist’s list was something not so serious, but still a little unpleasant.

“I would never go to sleep with wet hair,” Zubritsky shared.

“Sleeping with wet hair can create a humid environment, which can be a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi,” she continued.

But on top of that, Zubritsky said hair is “more vulnerable” when it’s wet, which can lead to other damage like breakage, thinning and “damage to the hair follicle.”

The doctor then advised viewers to never place a laptop on their laps, a common practice that many are guilty of.

“Prolonged exposure to heat sources, such as laptops or heating pads, can lead to a skin condition called erythema ab igne,” she shared, showing an image of what it looks like on the skin.

“It can cause discoloration that can last a long time,” Zubritsky explained.

The condition is usually asymptomatic apart from discoloration, but can sometimes cause itching and burning, according to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.

Finally, Zubritksy’s last two tips had to do with using retinoids, a form of vitamin A that is commonly used in skin care products or on its own to combat signs of aging.

However, the dermatologist advised using retinoids or retinol as spot treatments, especially if you suffer from acne.

“Retinol and retinoids actually prevent and treat acne, so you want to make sure you’re applying them all over your face,” she explained.

She also warned against waxing while using a retinol, retinoid or even Acccutane medication.

“Retinoids increase skin sensitivity, which can lead to pain, irritation, carpet burns, or chemical burns after waxing,” the doctor warned viewers.

In the comments section of her video, many users seemed to agree with her skincare recommendations and shared their own stories of mistakes they had made.

“I got impetigo from popping a pimple on my nose. It was horrible. It happened to me twice, once after COVID,” one person wrote.

Another wrote: “No, because the wet hair thing is true. I got ringworm on my back when I was in sixth grade because I slept with wet hair every night.”

“Good info. I waxed my eyebrows after applying retinol and the area is very irritated. Thanks,” another person commented.
