Wizz Air offers unlimited flights for £445 a year, but there are some drawbacks

Last minute flights: Prague is one of the options for travellers using the Wizz Air offer
  • Low-cost airline Wizz Air allows customers to fly as much as they like for £445
  • Travelers may need several vacations a year to make the deal worthwhile

Holidaymakers can fly as much as they like in a year with a new limited-time offer of £445 from Wizz Air, but it only makes sense for serious travellers who are happy to book at the last minute.

Wizz Air has launched an unlimited flight offer for £534 for 12 months, discounted to £445 from 13 August to 15 August.

Customers who purchase the all-you-can-fly offer will be able to take any journey they wish on a Wizz Air flight, paying an additional £9 per journey.

Travellers will be able to take advantage of the offer to travel from 200 cities in more than 50 countries on 800 Wizz Air routes.

The offer applies to any Wizz Air flight from 25 September 2024 and is valid for one person only.

One drawback is that this is only for last-minute travel and reservations must be made within 72 hours of flight takeoff.

Another drawback is that while £445 a year sounds cheap, so are Wizz Air flights.

This means customers may need to book three to five flights a year before they get their money back.

For example, a return flight with Wizz Air from Heathrow Airport to Marrakech departing within 72 hours costs £161.99, from Gatwick to Rome costs £134.99 and a return flight from Luton to Prague costs £89.99.

These six flights cost £410.97 with the three £9 flat fares included, still £34.03 less than the cost of the unlimited flight deal.

Holidaymakers taking advantage of the Wizz Air offer will also have to factor in accommodation and other holiday costs in addition to flights.

However, booking accommodation at the last minute is usually not more expensive in cities, although it can be more expensive in popular tourist centres.

Considering Wizz Air’s more expensive flights, the all-you-can-fly offer is more tempting for less frequent travellers.

The airline charges £228.99 for a return flight from Luton Airport to Istanbul, departing within 72 hours.

Return flights from Luton to Tel Aviv cost around £500 with Wizz Air, meaning customers could recoup the cost of the discounted all-you-can-fly deal in a single trip.

The higher cost reflects an additional airport charge, as the conflict between Israel and Palestine means planes must land at a different terminal at Ben Gurion Airport.

However, Wizz Air does not have flights available to Tel Aviv until the end of October, meaning customers with Israel in mind would have to rely on last-minute cancellations.

Baggage and seat selection fees are not included in the cost of the unlimited flight offer.

Wizz Air baggage charges vary between €11 (£9.40) and €120.50, depending on when and how you book, as well as the weight of your luggage.

Seat selection fees range from €80 to €100.

There are 10,000 memberships available with unlimited flight options.

Silvia Mosquera, Chief Commercial Officer at Wizz Air, said: “From adventurous travellers to digital nomads, this membership will make travel easier for frequent flyers and connect people with new people and places.”

How to compare travel insurance

The quickest and easiest way to save money on travel insurance and compare the best policies is to use a comparison site.

While the results will generally be the same across most comparison sites, they can differ slightly, so it’s worth checking a couple.

However, those with pre-existing medical conditions may find it difficult to obtain suitable travel insurance at a reasonable price using price comparison websites.

People in this situation can find travel coverage using the Tool to find a broker from the British Insurance Brokers Association or call 03709501790.
