A body has been found inside a van adrift in the water in Mackay Harbour.
The body of a man was discovered in the driver’s seat of the vehicle by workers shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday.
The van has been swept away by the current and is now trapped beneath a pontoon, where it risks being crushed by the rising tide.
Three cranes and several emergency crews, including police, paramedics and firefighters, are racing to pull the vehicle out of the water.
“At this point we’re still checking (CCTV) to see what time the car actually went into the water,” said Senior Sergeant Kyle Gould. mail.
“At this time the investigation is still ongoing… so we can’t make any determinations,” Senior Sergeant Gould said.

The truck is believed to have rolled down a ramp and into the water.
In February, a body was found inside a car at Harbour Beach in Mackay.
Police said the February discovery was not suspicious.
