“If you spray tan without makeup, it always ends up too dark. If you put makeup on first, it looks perfect,” said another person.
One woman shared her own trick, which involves “wiping the spray tan off my face immediately every time I’m done and just blending my foundation into my body.”
One person said the key is to “wear a hairnet over your face.”

If you want to ensure your spray tan isn’t too dark on your face, Natalia said you should ask your spray tan artist to lighten it.
And for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to acne, it’s important to make sure the products your tanning artist uses are non-comedogenic, meaning they won’t clog pores.
Instead of applying makeup, Natalia said it’s all about prepping in other ways, like exfoliating to make sure there’s no dry, flaky skin for the spray to cling to. and apply a light layer of moisturizer five hours or more beforehand.
Lifestyle blogger turned entrepreneur Bethany Menzel, co-founder and creative director of the viral tanning brand Salty faceHe also explained that this hack ‘It could result in an uneven tan depending on how it is applied.
“If you’re looking to create a barrier so your face doesn’t absorb too much of the tanner, I would recommend a thicker moisturizer all over your face or just in the areas where you don’t want the tan to develop as deeply,” said Bethany, who is based in Vancouver, Canada.

Of course, it’s always possible to just skip the face entirely and then use a product like Saltyface to get the right combination with clean ingredients that won’t give you acne.
However, it can take time to make sure it’s the right color, which makes it easier to work with a product that darkens over time.
‘Getting the right shade for your face can be difficult as we wash and exfoliate our faces a lot more and tend to use more products on them,’ Bethany advised.
‘I recommend using a gradual, buildable tanner, like our Tanning Water, so you can control the depth of your tan as the spray tan fades.’
