Coco Gauff’s quest for a first Olympic gold medal remains alive after beating Argentina’s Maria Lourdes Carle on Monday.
The American won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the third round.
On Sunday, the 20-year-old became the youngest American woman to win a singles match at the Olympics since Venus Williams in 2000.
And she will look to continue making history in her next match against Croatian Donna Vekic.
Also on Team USA, Gauff’s singles teammates Danielle Collins, Emma Navarro and Jessica Pegula all won their matches Sunday to advance.
