Hodgson suffered a health scare during training on Thursday and has been receiving medical attention since. However, Glasner was already on the list to replace the 76-year-old.

In an emotional farewell to Palace fans, Hodgson said: ‘This club is very special, it means a lot to me and has played an important role in my football life.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here for six seasons as it has given me the opportunity to work with top-level players and staff doing what I love every day.
“However, I understand that, given recent circumstances, it may be prudent at this time for the club to plan ahead and I have therefore made the decision to step aside so that the club can bring forward its plans for a new coach, as planned. For this summer.
“I would like to thank Steve Parish and his American partners for their support, along with my coaching staff and technical team who have helped me a lot along the way. In particular, a huge thank you to my old friend and assistant, Ray Lewington; coaches Dean Kiely and Paddy McCarthy; plus the excellent sports science, video analysis and medical departments.
“My thanks and respect also go to the current team of players who it has been a pleasure to work with; they are a credit to the club and to themselves. I am sure that our fans will continue to give their full support to the team for the rest of this season and beyond.
“I am confident that the season will end well and I wish the team every success in the coming weeks, months and seasons.”
Glasner, 49, arrives at a time of fan discontent at Selhurst Park, with the club languishing in 16th place and just five points above the relegation zone.
The mood had soured among the Eagles faithful in recent weeks, with Angry fans displaying banners blaming “wasted potential” and “weak decisions.” after the 5-0 defeat to Arsenal last month.
Steve Parish confirmed in a statement that Hodgson will have a “special place in Crystal Palace history.”

Hodgson narrowly avoided being hit by a missile launched from the Selhurst Park stands earlier this year and later claimed the club had “spoiled” its fans in recent years.
This is Palace’s longest continuous run in the top flight in their history, now in their 11th consecutive season following promotion in 2013.
Chairman Steve Parish originally wanted to keep Hodgson on until the summer, but the veteran manager’s position at Selhurst Park had been uncertain for several weeks amid a run of just three wins in 19 matches in all competitions.
That was before Hodgson’s health scare during a training session on Thursday.
Steve Cooper, Julen Lopetegui and Kieran McKenna were high on the club’s list, but Palace decided to go for Glasner.
In his last position, Glasner took charge of Eintracht Frankfurt. He led the club to Europa League glory in 2022 and was knocked out in the last 16 of the Champions League last season against Serie A champions Napoli.
Paddy McCarthy and Ray Lewington will lead the team for their clash against Everton at Goodison Park on Monday night.
