England were once again sub-par in Cologne, struggling to break down their opponents at every turn and managing just four shots on target as they bid to guarantee their place as Group C winners.
They did, but with a point instead of a victory, drawing 0-0, a result that was reflected in the other match between Denmark and Serbia, eliminating the Danes and the Serbians.

It was a game without opportunities, since Cole Palmer’s shot in the 89th minute was the closest to opening the scoring after the Chelsea player was introduced in his first minutes in the tournament.
But in reality, even that was easily achieved by Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak, with a Slovenian boot threatening to cause the most problems.
Southgate insisted after the game that his team had “improved a lot” with the ball at their feet.
The closest the Three Lions came was an effort from substitute Cole Palmer minutes from the end of the game.
Despite a perceived lack of attacking threat again, Southgate insisted his team were better than in their previous two games.
“We have improved a lot with the ball,” he said. ‘We have created some good opportunities and at the moment we are finding it difficult. We’re not getting that break from the ball.
‘The boys who came for us played a good game and we had the discipline to keep a clean sheet, which means we are first in the group. I understand some reactions, but it’s the strange environment we’re playing in.
‘We have to take one step at a time. Tonight was an improvement. We have to improve to clearly advance to the next round. But we have led the group and that was the goal at the beginning.
‘A lot of things are starting to fall into place. We had a lot of problems before the tournament. People like Marc Guehi and the way the defence has played has been a big positive and something to build on.’
