Dermott (pictured) was allegedly attacked by another driver after he stopped at a traffic light in Perth's north last Tuesday.

A man feared he would die when he was allegedly attacked by another motorist with a metal object after the pair exchanged details following a minor car accident.

Dermott, who was driving home from work, stopped his car at traffic lights at the intersection of Alexandra Drive and Woodrow Avenue in Dianella, north Perth, about 6pm last Tuesday.

While the 55-year-old man waited at the traffic light, a white van rear-ended his car.

The two vehicles sustained minor damage in the collision, and the drivers stopped and got out of their cars to exchange details.

Dermott (pictured) was allegedly attacked by another driver after he stopped at a traffic light in Perth’s north last Tuesday.

However, after the pair were reunited, Dermott claimed the other man said he felt sick and went into the bushes in an attempt to vomit.

Moments later, Dermott was allegedly hit several times by a metal object in an unprovoked attack after he went to see the ute driver.

“I heard a loud bang on the left side of my head,” he said. 7 news.

“I could feel the blood running down the back of my neck and also towards the front of my shirt.”

Dermott claimed the man head-butted him in the eye and cheek, and the vicious blows caused him to fall to his knees.

He was also forced to give the man his phone and wallet after the motorist demanded the items.

Dermott was allegedly punched again by the man while standing over him before attempting to defend himself in fear for his life.

‘I wanted to survive to get home and see my wife. That’s it,’ she said.

“I’m very nervous, very shocked and very scared.”

The alleged attacker fled the scene before Dermott managed to flag down a passing motorist.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene a short time later before Dermott was taken to hospital with head injuries, a broken wrist and a broken hand.

A horrific image showed a bloody gash on his head as he was being treated by first responders.

He spent the next five days in the hospital.

Police are still searching for the man as they continue to investigate the incident.

“This is abhorrent violence in the community,” said Washington Police Chief Detective John Larson.

“The randomness of the attack is obviously also a cause for concern.”

Footage from nearby traffic cameras showed the ute has a black crash bar on the front, a black hood on the front of the bonnet and a snorkel located on the left side of the vehicle.

The man has been described as having an olive complexion and is 178cm tall.
