A 71-year-old British woman tragically died yesterday after getting into trouble in the water off the southern coast of the Greek island of Crete.
The woman, who had gone swimming earlier in the afternoon, began feeling unwell shortly after entering the water in the popular seaside town of Agia Galini.
He successfully made it to shore after realizing his condition was deteriorating and backed away, but collapsed shortly after reaching land, according to a report from cretapost.
Emergency services responded to the scene and made every effort to revive her, but were unable to save her life.
She was taken to Rethymnon hospital, where she was officially declared dead.

The local port authority of Agia Galini is conducting a preliminary investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
Her death follows that of another British tourist, aged 66, who lost her life after fainting while swimming at Achladies beach in Skiathos in July.
The woman had left her hotel to go swimming at the island’s picturesque southern beach, CNN Greece reported, when she fell unconscious into the water and was pulled out of the sea by a lifeguard.
Medical professionals performed CPR and immediately took the woman to the nearby Skiathos Health Center, but unfortunately they were unable to save her life.
It is believed that the woman lost consciousness due to the “intense heat of the area”, with temperatures reaching 31°C on the island and little respite.
At the time, an excessive heat warning was issued in Skiathos amid a European heat wave.

In May, a British tourist drowned while swimming in the sea during a day trip to the Greek island of Kalymnos.
The 76-year-old is believed to have drowned before emergency services could pull him out of the water and help him at Vathi Harbour.
Six tourists were found dead in Greece in June alone, with authorities warning of the dangers of an intense heat wave sweeping the Mediterranean.
