A British teenager has died in Amsterdam after falling off a boat while sailing with his friends.
The boy, who was apparently not a strong swimmer, was rescued from the waters of the Buiten-IJ river on Sunday afternoon after firefighters, police and the Coast Guard responded to the scene.
Three firefighting dive teams entered the water after the boy went missing around 3:30 p.m., as trauma helicopters hovered overhead.
Rescuers located him less than an hour after he was reported missing and rushed him to hospital in critical condition.
He tragically died while in hospital, police told local media.
Police and ambulance services were called to the Buiten-IJ in Amsterdam on Sunday after a 14-year-old British boy fell from a boat and drowned in front of his friends.

Police are currently investigating the incident, but are reportedly treating it as a fatal accident.
According to the NL Times, this was the second child drowning in the Netherlands on Sunday after a Two-year-old girl died after falling into the lake in the van Luna park in Heerhugowaard.
A passerby noticed the girl lying motionless in the water at around 5pm and took her to the side where onlookers made resuscitation attempts while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
First responders, including a helicopter trauma team, attempted to resuscitate the girl once they arrived at the scene, but to no avail.
He died a short time later and police are still investigating how he ended up in the water.
This comes after another teenager drowned in front of his friends while taking selfies at the top of a waterfall in Myanmar.
Moe Sa Nay, 14, was posing for photos with her friends to share with her 150,000 followers on social media when she slipped on the wet stones of Sinywa waterfall on July 22.
Unable to free himself, Nay drowned as water crashed around him in the popular tourist destination of Paung town in Mon state.
Volunteers and firefighters struggled to remove the girl’s lifeless body from the rocks the next morning, July 23.
They saw her tying her hands with a rope and pulling her out of the narrow hole.
