Golf star Michelle Wie recalled feeling “angry” when Donald Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani joked about seeing her “panties” during a charity event in 2014.
Giuliani, who served as mayor of New York from 1994 to 2001, and radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh played alongside the former world No. 6 at a pro-am event in Florida just over 10 years ago.
And following Limbaugh’s death in 2021, the American politician sparked outrage by telling a chilling story about his round of golf with Wie; claiming that paparazzi were only following them that day because her underwear was visible.
‘On the green is Michele Wie, and she’s getting ready to putt,’ Giuliani said on Steve Bannon’s ‘War Room’ podcast. ‘Now Michelle Wie is beautiful. She’s 6’11, and she has this weird stance on putting. She’s bent over completely, and you can see her panties.’
“And the press went crazy. I told him (Rush), ‘It’s not me, it’s not you.'”

Wie, who won her first and only major championship at the U.S. Women’s Open three months after her round with Giuliani and Limbaugh, lashed out at the former mayor when his comments first aired, fuming that they made her “cringe.”
Now, more than a decade after their initial meeting, the 34-year-old has looked back on the saga while also questioning the veracity of Giuliani’s story.
“This is bullshit,” he said of her claim to have seen her “panties” in the Pablo Torres finds out about the podcastA. We wear shorts under our skirts. It’s very common.
“And it’s really annoying, because I’ve worn short skirts, but it was for an athletic reason, I don’t like having fabric around the bottom of my leg.
‘It really pissed me off. I don’t normally respond, I’ve always been the type of person (with the Asian-American thing too) who thinks, ‘Don’t respond, it’s not worth it. Don’t cause trouble,’ and I wasn’t going to do that.

“I think at that point I had already had my daughter or was about to have her, and I thought, ‘I have to say something for the sake of my daughter and the other girls.'”
With the help of her husband Jonnie West, Wie wrote a furious rebuttal and shared it on social media, though without directly naming Giuliani.
Her post read: ‘What this person should have remembered from that day was the fact that I shot 64 and beat every male golfer on the field, leading our team to victory.
“I shudder to think that he was smiling at me and complimenting my game while objectifying me and referencing my ‘panties’ behind my back all day long.”
The LPGA endorsed Wie at the time, saying: “She’s a five-time LPGA Tour winner. Major champion. LPGA Board member, elected by her peers. Stanford graduate. Working mother. We support @MichelleWieWest.”
