Nathan Buckley was sacked from SEN headquarters on Monday morning after making a mistake that most of us have been guilty of at some point.
Melbourne sports fans have grown accustomed to waking up to the dulcet tones of the Collingwood legend, with Buckley, 51, working the morning shift alongside Kane Cornes most weeks.
However, he was told to go home today after misreading the roster, and TV reporter Tom Morris was instead scheduled to host alongside Cornes.
Morris and Cornes were willing to let listeners hear about the pre-show accident when they went on air.
“I was looking forward to this morning and I got here early and they told me Nathan Buckley was coming too,” Morris told listeners at the start of the show.
‘Bucks came to the door and misread his schedule and was fired by (producer) Mitch.’
“It’s incredible,” Cornes said.
“Mitch came in and said Bucks had gotten here a little bit before me. You wouldn’t believe it, Bucks got here at 5 o’clock and we had to turn him away. I don’t think he cared.”
Nathan Buckley was sent home from SEN headquarters after reporting at 5am on Monday.
An unsympathetic Morris said::”You just need to read your calendar.”
But Morris provided valuable insight for the breakfast show, revealing that plans are afoot at Channel 7 to introduce a Sunday morning football show from 2025.
“I don’t know what time, I don’t know who’s going to be there… my information is that they’ll have a couple of new shows next year,” Morris said.
