As rumors of a new romance swirl between newly single Rory McIlroy and CBS sportswriter Amanda Balionis, her husband, Bryn Renner, appears to be caught in the middle.
McIlroy filed for divorce from Erica Stoll last week and was seen with Balionis in public days before the split became official at the Wells Fargo Championships in North Carolina.
Balionis’ flirtatious energy was obvious to golf fans at McIlroy compared to the way he interviews other golfers.
Balionis’ social media name no longer bears her married name and she has been seen at recent golf events without her wedding ring.
Now, Renner’s name has come to light as the potential romance between McIlroy and Balionis intensifies.
Renner spent time with five different NFL teams before retiring from professional football.
Renner and Balionis began dating in 2019 and got engaged in 2021. They married a year later.
Who is Bryn Renner?
Renner is a 34-year-old former NFL quarterback and former quarterbacks coach at Florida International University, with the Panthers competing in the FBS-level Conference USA.
Renner never played in a regular-season NFL game, but spent time on the practice or preseason squads of five different teams over three seasons.
Before trying to make it in the NFL, Renner was a quarterback at North Carolina from 2009-2013.
He was the Tar Heels’ primary starter for three seasons after redshirting his first season and serving as a backup in 2010.
Renner’s time as a college football coach lasted from 2016 to 2021 with a brief stint at Austin Peay before going to FIU.
According to his LinkedIn page, Renner is now an account executive at KLDiscovery, a technology company that helps with legal services.

Balionis and Renner got engaged on the beach in 2021 and married in 2022.
The couple reportedly met in 2019 and spent more than four years as an item before Balionis appeared publicly without her wedding ring for the first time.
The couple now appears to be separated, with McIlroy spending more time near Balionis’ home in San Diego.
The only team to call up Renner to a 53-man roster was the Baltimore Ravens in 2015.

Renner went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft and originally signed a contract with the Denver Broncos.
He then spent time with the Ravens, Titans, Chargers and Steelers in the two years after leaving Denver.
Renner also had one season with the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League in 2014.
Renner retired from football after being removed from Pittsburgh’s roster in September 2016.
Renner was a three-year starter at North Carolina before trying to make it in the NFL.

After leaving college football, Renner was a volunteer high school coach in La Jolla, California, but left that job in March.
