Vigilante driver charged with murder after ‘deliberately hitting cyclist’ on suburban Perth street

A cyclist died after being intentionally hit by a driver attempting a lookout, police said.

The 48-year-old cyclist was knocked down on the corner of Lion Street and Jupiter Street in Carlisle, Perth, by a 27-year-old driver at 1.45pm on Friday.

Police allege the 27-year-old swerved his Kia Carnival sedan towards the cyclist, who was then dragged for more than 30 meters down the road before the driver fled the scene. WA today.

Paramedics took the cyclist to Royal Perth Hospital but he died shortly after 2.30pm.

Major accident detective Inspector David Gorton said the collision was being treated as a “deliberate act” and the driver has since been found and charged with murder.

Inspector Gorton told reporters the incident could have arisen from a dispute over a personal item the two parties had been having since the previous day.

‘We are investigating what we believe was an incident from the previous day. “We think it could be a personal item,” he said.

‘We just want to reiterate to the public that if you are a victim of crime, no matter how serious the incident, we urge you to contact the police if you feel you need help.

“Don’t take things into your own hands.”

Before their alleged dispute, the two men did not know each other.

Police found the 27-year-old after pedestrians and other drivers called triple-0 to report a man driving erratically on the road.

He will appear at Perth Magistrates Court for sentencing on Sunday.

Police have questioned friends and family of the accused who were also in the car at the time of the incident.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing and police are urging anyone with dash cam footage or information to come forward. Plugs for crime.
